Notices for Sunday 19 September
Busbridge Church have been given this beautiful fig tree by a couple who attended the last pre-marriage course in July. The next (one day) course is Saturday 13 November, and open to couples who are engaged or thinking about marriage. (You don’t necessarily need to be having a wedding at Busbridge&Hambledon.) Thanks to Tom and Debs and others for faithfully leading this course. See Pre-Marriage course.
This Sunday
POSSIBILITIES
Readings: Mark 4: 1-20
There’s often a tension between problems and possibilities.
Some people are so focused on the dirt around them that they don't see the Kingdom possibilities. In our teaching this Sunday we’ll be thinking about how to concentrate on the seeds, and their potential harvest, rather than the dirt they sit in.
Please continue to wear a face covering in church.

The Notices
Thank you to everyone who supported children and youth ministry last Sunday across the congregations and for our whole benefice on our first Sunday ‘back’. There were over 45 children at the contemporary service and a further 41 teenagers gathered in the evening from Witley, Wormly, Hambledon, Farncombe, Busbridge and places in between! If you helped in some way, thank you! If you would like to get involved, CYF needs you! Please contact Anto.
Would you like to give back to the community and support our church school and great head teacher? We have a vacancy for a church governor for our junior school (BJS). The governors meet a few times a year and there are two sub-groups which oversee resources and learning. If you would like to support our school in this way then please speak to Ron (chair of governors and usually at the classic at Busbridge) or Rev Simon T (vice chair of governors). All governors undertake safeguarding training and have a DBS check.
Have you invited anyone to come to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Big Questions event at Priors Field on 26 September at 1.30pm? Watch the invitation from Justin Welby himself, and read on for booking details.
The September issue of the Bridge is out now and will be available for road stewards to collect from church this Sunday. Wait for it to drop on your doormat, or read the online version HERE. It would be much appreciated if road stewards could kindly collect and distribute their remaining Sept/Oct bundles of the Bridge from the back of church/church porch as soon as possible. (The church will be closed from lunchtime on Friday for a wedding).
PLEASE HELP
The Yew Tree Café is now hiring for the post of Café Manager (full time or part-time job share).

Archbishop of Canterbury visit to the Diocese of Guildford 24-27 September
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will visit the diocese from 24-27 September 2021. There will be a number of opportunities for you and your guests to hear and question the Archbishop and all events are free to attend. Space is limited and places must be booked in advance.
1> An Evening with Justin Welby - for clergy and church members
Lakeside Country Club near Camberley on Friday 24 September at 8pm
This is our main diocese-wide event with the Archbishop and is intended for clergy and congregations rather than for guests from outside the church. There will be worship, prayer for the weekend, celebration of all that God is doing in our parishes, a key address from the Archbishop on the future of the local church, and an extended time of Q and A. Register Here
2> Big Questions with the Archbishop of Canterbury – the events to invite your friends too.
Godalming – Prior’s Field School, Godalming, Sunday 26 September 1.30pm Register Here
The Archbishop will respond to questions from the public at the following major events across the diocese, and speak on how to find security and hope in uncertain times. These events are only for church members bringing guests, or guests booking places on their own. These events will be followed up with locally run Alpha courses. Busbridge&Hambledon Church is teaming up with Emmaus Road, Guildford and will be hosting the next Alpha in October 2021.
Details of all the events from 24-27 Sep, and how to get hold of tickets can be found here:

3> Youth Event with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and rapper, Guvna B, at Christ’s College, Guildford on Sunday 26 September at 7pm. This offers a unique opportunity for young people from schools and churches across the diocese to question the Archbishop and hear him speak on ‘How to make the most of your life.’ You can book places for your young people here. We are also keen to welcome groups from secondary schools so do feel free to pass this invitation on to teaching staff and Christian unions in your local state and independent schools.
Confirmation
The pandemic has caused many people to rethink their lives. If you would like to take a personal step of confirming your faith in a way which is meaningful and public then please email Simon Taylor. There is a confirmation service on November 14th and Simon would be delighted to meet with anyone who would like to spend some time reflecting on their faith and then confirming it in this special service. The service is local at Chiddingfold and will be taken by the Bishop of Guildford.
Living in Love and Faith
How do questions about identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage fit within the bigger picture of the good news of Jesus Christ? What does it mean to live in love and faith together as a Church? Several BHC Small groups will be following the national CofE course in September. If you would like to join one, please contact Simon Willetts. Info on the course can be found on the CofE web site here:

Safeguarding Past Case Reviews - reaching out to survivors and victims
Busbridge&Hambledon Church takes safeguarding extremely seriously, and with the Diocese of Guildford fully supports the House of Bishops wish to ensure that all our churches and church related activities are as safe as possible for children, young people and vulnerable adults. It is so important that all known cases of concern about the behaviour of clergy and church officers towards children and vulnerable adults have been considered and dealt with appropriately. We have been asked to issue a reminder of the plea to survivors and victims to come forward. Please read more on the Safeguarding page >
The September Outward Giving Update is out now and provides an update on BHC mission partner, The Cellar Camino Café. Please take a copy from church or download it HERE.
