Do you want to Sing?
In advance of the anticipated lifting of restrictions on public worship on 19 July, the Simons and wardens would like to check what people think and feel about easing precautions at Busbridge&Hambledon church.
We anticipate that your opinions will be different (and early responses indicate this to be true) but the survey will still help support and explain decisions, and precautions that might stay in place.
Please complete the survey “Do you want to sing?”
If you know anyone who is not online, please give them a ring and fill in their answers, or take a paper copy from either church this Sunday.

Archbishop of Canterbury visit to the Diocese of Guildford 24-27 September
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will visit the diocese from 24-27 September 2021. There will be a number of opportunities for you and your guests to hear and question the Archbishop and all events are free to attend. Space is limited and places must be booked in advance.
An Evening with Justin Welby
Lakeside Country Club near Camberley on Friday 24 September at 8pm
This is our main diocese-wide event with the Archbishop and is intended for clergy and congregations rather than for guests from outside the church. There will be worship, prayer for the weekend, celebration of all that God is doing in our parishes, a key address from the Archbishop on the future of the local church, and an extended time of Q and A. Register Here
Big Questions with the Archbishop of Canterbury – a series of eleven guest events
Godalming – Prior’s Field School, Godalming, Sunday 26 September 1.30pm Register Here
The Archbishop will respond to questions from the public at the following major events across the diocese, and speak on how to find security and hope in uncertain times. These events are only for church members bringing guests, or guests booking places on their own. These events will be followed up with locally run Alpha courses. Busbridge&Hambledon Church is teaming up with Emmaus Road, Guildford and will be hosting the next Alpha in October 2021.
Details of all the events from 24-27 Sep, and how to get hold of tickets can be found here:
https://www.cofeguildford.org.uk/whats-on/events/archbishop-of-canterbury-mission-sept21
Hambledon Festival Service on 29 August (no services at Busbridge)
As part of the Hambledon Festival 2021, Busbridge&Hambledon Church is delighted to be leading a service on the village cricket green on bank holiday weekend. The service will be for all ages, with activities for children. Please save the date, and if you can offer to help with set up and set down contact Simon Willetts.
Living in Love and Faith
How do questions about identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage fit within the bigger picture of the good news of Jesus Christ? What does it mean to live in love and faith together as a Church? Several BHC Small groups will be following the national CofE course in September. If you would like to join one, please contact Simon Willetts. Info on the course can be found on the CofE web site here:
https://www.churchofengland.org/resources/living-love-and-faith
Bibles for Hambledon Nursery leavers
We are blessed that our children’s ministry is getting more embedded in Hambledon, and there’s a good relationship with the Nursery. Juliet Gilbert is delivering age appropriate bibles for all those “graduating” from Hambledon Nursery this summer. If you would like to contribute to the cost of the bibles, please contact Andrew Dunn to arrange a donation.
Busbridge Centre Redevelopment >>> Yew Tree Cafe
The building work has begun. Please support the Busbridge Centre Redevelopment Team and the Café Management Team in prayer. There will be a 20min prayer session at 12.30pm on Thursdays outside the centre for those that can gather, and on Zoom. Please contact lisa.olsworth-peter@bhcgodalming.org if you'd like to join on Zoom. Cakes for the construction team are also much appreciated!
The PCC is looking for a great member of the church to give some time to be a church governor at Busbridge Junior CoE aided Junior School. No previous experience is needed. To find out more speak to Simon Taylor. Any experience in HR, finance or premises is welcomed.
SUMMER READING
What are the clergy reading over the summer? We’ve asked some of the clergy for their thoughts on summer reading material. You might like to dip into one or two of these.
Andy is reading Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor.
For lighter reading, you could try Andy’s The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Written in 2021 it draws parallels between life in the 1930s in the USA and living through the pandemic today.
David Jenkins is reading Dwelling in the Psalms by Pat Marsh. It was written whilst the author was recovering from a long illness.
Simon T is reading A culture of Invitation by Michael Harvey which explores church culture and the importance of welcome. For a different type of reading Simon is looking at Dilemmas of Inclusion: Muslims in European Politics by Rafaela Dancygier.
Margot is reading Pillars: how Muslim friends led me closer to Jesus by Rachel Pieh Jones (Djibouti Jones). She writes about hospitality - given and received – and offers a salutary reminder that our primary call is to be good neighbours to those around us.
Hilary is reading The Salt Path by Raynor Winn as Hilary can now picture the places she writes about.
Simon Willetts recommends Gentle & Lowly by Dane Orland.
Church Family news
From Gertrud: After 27 years of ‘commuting’ to Busbridge, I have decided to move to my local church, St John’s Farncombe. There are several reasons for this, but the deciding one is that at this time, if feels right for me to be there.
Busbridge church recommended me for training as an LLM in 1997 and have supported and encouraged me in my ministry ever since, and for this I am deeply grateful. I will continue to be involved in the Monday morning reflective prayer times and Space for God. May God keep and bless you all and (in the words of Hebr 13) ‘equip you with everything good for doing his will’.
With fond regards, Gertrud Sollars
Thank you Gertrud for your continued ministry at both Busbridge&Hambledon and St John’s, Farncombe. We wish you well as you move to St John’s and are so glad not to be saying goodbye completely!
Carer / Companion needed – A vacancy has arisen in the support team caring for a long standing member of the Busbridge Church family. Ideally the position available is for an experienced carer who could work up to 8 hours a week spread over either 2 or 4 days. However, applications would also be welcomed from people with no previous care experience and the position could become more of a companion role. The purpose of the currently available position is to provide cover and a break for the live-in carer. For further details please contact Penny Naylor via the Church Office or email: penny.naylor@bhcgodalming.org

Godalming Food Bank needs your help
The Food Bank at St Mark’s Church & Community Centre has been running since 2011, with the support of Godalming Churches Together and the Town Council. The recent pandemic has led to an increased demand and, together with the Town Council, we are working to ensure we can continue and enhance our service. To help us maintain our friendly and efficient service we would like to increase our number of volunteers.
From September we need volunteers who can spare 3 hours a week either on Monday or Wednesday between 12:00and 3:00pm. There will be an organised rota, so volunteering need not be every week unless you wish to help more regularly.
The role is varied and involves setting up and clearing away produce, meeting and greeting people and generally helping with their requirements, and taking donations and organising storage. If this is something you would like to be involved with please contact either Karen or Liz. Tele 01483 418741 emailstmarkscentre@gmail.com
The Cellar Camino café volunteer vacancies
For those interested in supporting the amazing work of the Cellar Cafe, opposite Waitrose, next to the Borough Hall, there are vacancies for a book keeper to keep track of café takings, and for volunteers to cover afternoon shifts (approx 2-4.30pm). One of the BHC Small Groups is already involved, so contact Mark Puddephatt, or Penny Harris via the church office if you’d like to find out what it’s like to volunteer. See https://www.thecellarcafe.co.uk/
Waverley Abbey College (the Higher Education arm of CWR) currently has a vacancy for a Programme Administrator which might be of interest to someone in your network of contacts. The job is advertised on the Charity Job website and can be accessed using this link https://www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs?location=farnham&radius=10&cause=faith-based
Please find the latest edition of Churches Together Link Up (July issue) here.
Services at Busbridge Church and Hambledon Church

Hambledon Church is open daily for private prayer. Busbridge Church is closed mid-week, but can be accessed for private prayer via the vestry. Contact the Church Office.
The Old Rectory is reopening gradually, and clergy and staff are still mainly working from home. The answerphone is checked regularly, but the best way to reach people is by email.
