Thanks so much for such a super 3 days. [our children] have loved every minute of it.

Children and families had a great time at the recent Space Academy holiday Club over 3 days at the end of August. Spaces booked out early this year with lots of children returning after 2024’s Holiday Club “The Greatest Treasure”. This year the Brighton Road site was transformed into an intergalactic space station with mission bases for rocket rangers, solar sprinters, galaxy gliders, and lunar legends age groups. The mission? To spread the fruits of the spirit to far off planets and overcome the evil alien “Bad Odour” (sounds a bit like Yoda). This was done with star songs, phaser fitness, big team games, craft activities, cooking in the black hole bakery and outdoor games in the Old Rectory garden. The story of Daniel was woven into the fun over the 3 days, and the cadets explored the different ways he and his friends were obedient to God in the face of danger, and how God protected him from imprisonment, the fiery furnace and of course the lion’s den! Proverbs provided the cosmic code which cadets were given to teach each other.
Parents fed back that it was their children’s favourite club of the summer – and certainly one of the best value.
“We just wanted to say a big thank you for all your hard work, creativity and energy in putting together an incredible holiday club. [Our children] had a fabulous time and I was amazed to hear about all the imaginative activities they had been up to every day. The level of care and detail involved was clear to see. ”
“Of course as part of the church community already we are perhaps inevitably going to be positive but what you might not know about is that the word about how fun and fantastic the club was spread far beyond those attending. I picked up [my child] from some play dates during that week and when I mentioned she’d been at the holiday club, some of the mums (who are definitely not church goers) said “oh yes, I’ve heard it’s really good. I must send xxx next year.”
Holiday Club involved a team of about 50 people over the 3 days to lift off and we are thankful. The paid staff team downed their usual tools to lead worship, groups and were joined by a huge team of volunteers from all areas of the Minster. Huge thanks are due to everyone and we look forward to next year!
Planning is now underway for the Light Party on 31 October and a fun packed Christmas programme for children and families.
In the meantime we hope to see some of the cadets and their parents at our regular children’s groups on a Sunday – 10.30am at Church Street, the Franklyn Road Youth Café after school on Wednesdays and the Friday Night Socials
