Close Godalming Minster

Within the Minster, people tend to connect with a specific location or style of worship, forming what we call a congregation. While you might dip in and out, build relationships and serve in one more than others, you’ll be welcomed like a long lost cousin at any service, in any location, at any time.

Your questions answered…

Who is welcome?

Anyone and everyone! You’ll find every type of person walking alongside you. We are less interested in someone’s past and present and more interested in how we are all learning to follow and worship Jesus Christ together. Imagine you got all your extended family together for a party.

Don't like noise? Looking for something reflective and thoughtful?

Try the one of the quieter services: 8am BCP Communion on 2nd Sundays of the month, 5pm Evensong on 4th Sundays of the month, Reflective prayer online every Monday.

How long are the services and how do they differ?

The earlier on Sunday, the shorter the service and the more structured it is.

We recognise that everyone is different so the services are called ‘congregations’ because people congregate in different ways. If you like hymns then we have it; loud contemporary music then we provide that too; no music – we offer that as well; informal and chilled – that is offered; something with a clear structure and recognisably Anglican – yes… you’re likely to find something for you here. What unites them is the shared belief in the accuracy of the Bible and that we preach from the Bible in order to shape our lives for life.

What do I wear?

Whatever you like! No-one expects people to wear their ‘Sunday best’. Some of people come smartly dressed; but most people come in a tee, jeans, or shorts (even in winter). It is up to you.

What is communion?

There’s at least one communion service across the Minster every Sunday, and each congregation celebrates communion (also known as The Eucharist) once a month. We have gluten-free and alcohol-free options – just mention it to the person giving communion as you go up.

What do I do when I come in?

You’ll be welcomed at the door and invited to come in.  Look out for someone wearing a lanyard!  You can just say ‘hello’ or you can say that you’ve seen this bit of the website and would like to be told a bit about what goes on. Sit anywhere where there is a space. You keep your coat and belongings with you.

At the Contemporary and Hambledon, you can also grab a Croissant too!

What do you believe?

We’re an Anglican Church and part of the Church of England so our beliefs are well known. We’re here to help people explore questions of life, death, faith and eternity. We hold the Bible to be God’s Words and that Jesus Christ is God. There are different views about what this might mean but we’re all agreed that we hold the Bible and Jesus Christ to be of fundamental importance.

Are children welcome?

Children are more than welcome, and we don’t mind noise!  We have a dedicated team and services which are particularly geared around them and your family. Try the 10.30 Contemporary at Church Street where children go out into groups during the service and its all age outdoor service “Church in the Park” on 1st Sundays.  Over 11s join the 6pm Brighton Road congregation before leaving for time as a group in the specially designated spaces – The Hut and The Yard. There’s a relaxed All age service at Franklyn Road on 2nd Sundays too. If you are coming to another service, there’s toy bags available at each church.
