Foodbank volunteers Graham and Debs welcomed Ruth Roseblade and 15 delightful 4-6 year old Squirrels to the Foodbank yesterday evening, where they spent an hour learning all about the Foodbank, packing eggs, putting their donations away in the foodbank cupboard, and having fun at another activity station (which started out as a hospitality station with a toy kitchen to make tea and coffee’s and have a chat but may have turned into a shop along the way!).  We were very impressed with how well they listened and how engaged they were during the visit.  Top marks for teamwork tidying up afterwards too!

Ruth started with an excellent group activity where each child was given a closed party box and asked to open it.  Most of the boxes had a packet of jelly in them but a few had nothing inside.  Ruth explored what it feels like to have nothing when everyone around you has something, and what it feels like to have something when your neighbour has nothing.  It is a very powerful activity in demonstrating that ‘having nothing’ can happen to anybody, and how we can share and look out for those who have nothing/little.

Ruth, thank you for bringing the Squirrels to the Foodbank and for the valued donations which are likely to bless many of the people who use the Foodbank.  We loved having the Squirrels to visit!
